National Association of Welfare Rights Advisers

NAWRA was established in 1992 and consists of advisers from local authorities, the voluntary sector, trade unions, solicitors and others providing free and independent advice in the UK. Currently, NAWRA has over 200 group and individual members.

NAWRA has the joint aims of -

  • Challenging, influencing and improving welfare rights policy & legislation;
  • Promoting NAWRA as the national voice of welfare rights advisers.

In 2003, an elected steering group was established to help take forward these aims. The group is made up of regional representatives and each provides a link with local structures that can then feed into the national body.

Membership fees for local authorities and solicitors firms are £75 (plus VAT) per year. Voluntary sector agencies and individuals can join for just £15 (plus VAT) per year. Further details on NAWRA membership and forthcoming events can be obtained at the relevant pages in this site.

NAWRA holds quarterly national meetings and workshops at venues around the country. Each is programmed over a whole day and they are free for members to attend.
